Name Spatial unit identifier
Definition Unique international identifier of the spatial unit for which the data is being reported.
Methodology for obtaining data This value is required.

If the spatial unit is a WFD sub-unit:
- use the European unique identifier reported under the "Water Framework Directive - River Basin Management Plans - 2016 Spatial data" obligation;
- use 'euSubUnitCode' in the field spatialUnitIdentifierScheme.

If the spatial unit is a Water Framework Directive (WFD) River Basin District (RBD):
- use the European unique identifier reported under the "Water Framework Directive - River Basin Management Plans - 2016 Spatial data" obligation;
- use 'euRBDCode' in the field spatialUnitIdentifierScheme.

For spatial units not reported under the Water Framework Directive:
- use the unique EIONET code of the spatial unit;
- use 'eionetSubUnitCode' or 'eionetRBDCode', as applicable, in the field spatialUnitIdentifierScheme.
Note that the geometry and characteristics of the spatial unit should then be reported under the "WISE - Spatial Data (WISE-5)" data flow.

If the spatial unit is the country:
- use the 2-alpha character ISO country code. The following exceptions apply: for Greece use 'EL'; for the United Kingdom, use 'UK', and
- use 'countryCode' in the field spatialUnitIdentifierScheme.
