DATA ELEMENT WITH QUANTITATIVE VALUES

Identifier parameterSampleDepth
Short name Sample Depth
RegistrationStatus Released 08 October 2020
Reference URL http://dd.eionet.europa.eu/dataelements/latest/parameterSampleDepth
Name Sample depth
Definition Depth at which sample was taken in meter below water surface.
Methodology for obtaining data It is sufficient to report data for surface samples. If samples from several depths are still reported, one of them should be a surface sample.

It is recognised there can be differences through the sampling column and that these are interesting from a research perspective, but we do not foresee use of such data in EEA assessments.

Use the value 0 for surface samples.

The value is mandatory in the AggregatedData table. It is also part of the unique combination for these records, so it can be used to distinguish aggregated records from the same location and year, but from different depths.

The DisaggregatedData records of samples taken at the same location and date, but from different depths, must have different sampleIdentifier values. In these cases the parameterSampleDepth should also be filled, at least for the samples that are not surface samples.
