Definition The pH value is used to describe the acidity respectively the basicity of an aqueous (water based) solution. It is a measure for the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution, how acid or alkaline it is. The scale reaches from 0 (acidic) to 14 (basic), where 7 is neutral (pure water).
