| Definition | The spatial pattern “heterogeneous” describes the more or less equal distribution of several features inside a land unit, with an uneven texture. Certain different land cover components that may occur inside a land unit are distributed in a mixed manner. A varying density in distribution can be the appearance of heterogeneity. Example: a mixed forest consists out of mixed stands of broad leaved trees and needle leaved trees. |
