Definition The parameter for crown cover density indicates the share of a certain spatial land cover unit that is over-shielded by the crowns of trees (or bushes). Clearly to say that underneath the crown cover there is other land cover besides the tree (other trees, bushes, bare soil, grasses, mosses etc.). It is up to the user himself whether he wants to add up all area to no more than 100%, or if he allows the surface to have a third (vertical) dimension and reach area values above 100% of the area after adding up all kinds of vegetation.
