| Definition | Establishment of forest plantations through planting and/or deliberate seeding on land that, until then, was not classified as forest. Implies a transformation from non-forest to forest. According to UN IPCCC´s LULUCF (Land Use, Land Use Change, Forest) reporting practices, a time interval of under 20 years can be used here as a threshold for “new” forest. Example: Long tradition agricultural areas, grasslands or fallow lands are planted with trees; re- naturated extraction sites are filled up with earth or sand to grow additional forest. |
