Definition [Quercus ilex]-dominated formations of peninsular Greece and the Ionian and Aegean archipelagoes, with the exception of those of Crete; associated with [Quercus ilex] are [Quercus coccifera], [Arbutus andrachne], [Arbutus unedo], [Phillyrea latifolia], [Pistacia terebinthus], [Pistacia lentiscus], [Olea europaea], [Juniperus oxycedrus]; arborescent matorrals (unit 32.1) occur throughout the area, though much less commonly than in the western Mediterranean; reasonably extensive, fully developed, mature forest stands do not appear to remain.
