| Definition | Oak woods on black or brown soils over loess substrates of the Pannonic basin and its hills, dominated by [Quercus cerris], [Quercus pubescens], [Quercus robur] or [Quercus petraea]; the upper part of the well-stratified shrub layer is composed mainly of [Acer tataricum] and [Acer campestre], the herb layer of [Festuca rupicola], [Brachypodium pinnatum], [Brachypodium sylvaticum], [Melica altissima], [Nepeta pannonica], [Phlomis tuberosa], [Pulmonaria mollissima], [Doronicum hungaricum], [Polygonatum odoratum], [Buglossoides purpurocaerulea] ([Lithospermum purpurocaeruleum]). Formerly extending in the entire Pannonic basin, from Hungary and southern Slovakia to the Srijem area of northeastern Croatia and northwestern Serbia and the Deliblat region of northeastern Serbia, these forests have been reduced to a few dozen remnant stands. |
