| Definition | This habitat is composed of [Ostrea edulis] biogenic reefs of three dimensional structure on soft bottoms. The massive reefs can reach dimensions of up to 7m in height and are composed of dead [Ostrea edulis] shells and cemented tubes of serpulid are overgrown by blue mussels, sponges, the red algae [Delesseria ruscifolia], the brown algae [Xanardinia prototypus], crabs such as [Eriphia verrucosa] and also constitute essential habitat for the bivalve [Petricola lithophaga]. It is unknown whether live [Ostrea edulis] reefs can still be found in the Black Sea. |
