Definition This linear character describes the modification of land surface to equal out a slope with regularly arranged platforms in a stepwise manner. It requires earthworks to make the terraces. Terraces are mainly arranged for agricultural purposes (but not exclusively) in areas where the original relief energy is too high for agricultural activities like sowing, mowing, ploughing, harvesting or flooding irrigation. Typically, the terraces“ edges follow the isohypes of equal height of the slope.
