Preferred label [Drinking Water] DWD risk assessments and risk management measures within catchment areas - Article 8.1(b)
Definition Article 8.2 of the Directive specifies that the risk assessment of catchment areas for water abstraction points must include three core elements: Characterisation of the Catchment Areas: Member States must identify and map the catchment areas and any established safeguard zones. This also includes collecting geo-references for all abstraction points—which must be protected due to their sensitive nature—and describing the land-use, runoff, and recharge processes in these areas. Identification of Hazards and Risks: Authorities must identify hazards and hazardous events within the catchment areas and assess the risk they could pose to the quality of the water, specifically looking for deterioration that could threaten human health. Appropriate Monitoring: Based on the identified hazards, Member States must monitor relevant pollutants and parameters in the surface water, groundwater, or raw water.
