Definition Forests of endemic [Pinus canariensis], of the dry montane level at around 800 to 2000 m (locally down to 500 and up to 2500 m) in Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria and Hierro, with [Chamaecytisus proliferus], [Adenocarpus foliolosus], [Cistus symphytifolius], [Lotus campylocladus], [Lotus hillebrandii], [Lotus spartioides], [Daphne gnidium], [Juniperus cedrus], [Micromeria] spp.; these forests, of which well-preserved examples have become rare, are the only habitat of [Fringilla teydea], [Dendrocopos major canariensis] and [Dendrocopos major thanneri].
