Definition Incompletely terrestrialized wetlands occupied by peat-forming vegetation with acid groundwater or (for vegetation rafts) acid underlying pool or lake water. Characteristic species are [Calla palustris], [Carex chordorrhiza], [Carex diandra], [Carex heleonastes], [Carex lasiocarpa], [Carex limosa], [Carex rostrata], [Menyanthes trifoliata], [Potentilla palustris], [Rhynchospora alba], [Scheuchzeria palustris]. Included are rafts of [Sphagnum] and [Eriophorum] (D2.38) and quaking rafts of [Molinia caerulea] (D2.3D). Excluded are stands of vegetation fringing water bodies (C3.2) unless the vegetation raft is sufficiently extensive to count as a habitat in its own right.
