Definition The Environnement SF8 is an instrument from France to measure Black Smoke & Acidity The Environnement SF8 instrument is used with a Photovolt Model 670 reflectometer, to measure the degree of staining on Schneider CA 32 filter paper. The reflectometer is zeroed by setting the measuring head on a standard black tile and to 100 when set on a pile of clean Schneider filter papers. A standard white tile of similar reflectance to the filter papers is used to check the calibration which should not differ from clean filter paper by more than ±2 divisions. Each stain is measured with the stained paper set on a pile of clean filter papers. The reflectometer uses a green optical filter.
